How technology affects the language used
The genre of this text is an email, in an informal and colloquial register. Its audience is just the two men emailing each other, as emails allow privacy. The mode is written and its purpose is to entertain each other as they get excited about the upcoming move, as well as to inform each other, as they are sending hyperlinks to show each other potential homes.
In this text both participants often use incorrect grammer. This includes misuse of capital letters and sentences not making sense. For instance Brian emailed John saying 'I loved the top one too, but have never heard of that area' this needs an 'I' to then be wrote like this... 'but I have'. Without it, its an incorrect use of grammer. This is used because technology has allowed them to ignore errors in language, as it does not affect communication as you can still communicate successfully the same piece of information. Whereas if this was face to face communication it would be strange to miss out a noun while speaking. As well as the fact of being able to communicate a lot quicker by missing out parts of the sentence, but still making sense. When you read the message (written mode) it allows you to read very quickly so you automatically correct errors in your head, and move past it as if it was there originally. But face to face you have to process the information someone is giving to you.
By looking at the text you can form a judgement on the participants, because of the use of symbols and letters 'xoxoxoxo' you can assume they are friendly and may have formed a relationship. Because stereotypically you don't see same sex participants being over friendly like these two men.
