Text J
How technology affects the language used
The genre of this text is an email, in an informal and colloquial register. Its audience is just the two men emailing each other, as emails allow privacy. The mode is written and its purpose is to entertain each other as they get excited about the upcoming move, as well as to inform each other, as they are sending hyperlinks to show each other potential homes.
In this text both participants often use incorrect grammer. This includes misuse of capital letters and sentences not making sense. For instance Brian emailed John saying 'I loved the top one too, but have never heard of that area' this needs an 'I' to then be wrote like this... 'but I have'. Without it, its an incorrect use of grammer. This is used because technology has allowed them to ignore errors in language, as it does not affect communication as you can still communicate successfully the same piece of information. Whereas if this was face to face communication it would be strange to miss out a noun while speaking. As well as the fact of being able to communicate a lot quicker by missing out parts of the sentence, but still making sense. When you read the message (written mode) it allows you to read very quickly so you automatically correct errors in your head, and move past it as if it was there originally. But face to face you have to process the information someone is giving to you.
By looking at the text you can form a judgement on the participants, because of the use of symbols and letters 'xoxoxoxo' you can assume they are friendly and may have formed a relationship. Because stereotypically you don't see same sex participants being over friendly like these two men.

How technology affects language on Maisie's twitter!
Technology can affect language on twitter in various ways but I will be looking specifically at the way it affects '@_maisiebrown's twitter.
One way technology affects the language on everyone's twitter pages is the fact that you can only have 140 characters on a tweet, so therefore tweets get to the point straight away, and use shorter words to substitute others. For example on Maisie's twitter (May-Z) every tweet is around 40- 50 characters for example she says 'Can't wear foundation into school today because my skin is so dry. Don't judge me' this is just about 60 characters. Really you can only write around 2-3 sentence per tweet, this then leads people to tweet and then follow it by another tweet. This is usually done for two reasons, one to continue the tweet, two for emphasis. Another thing done for emphasis is the fact that Maisie often adds letters to words, to extend the main head word in the sentence for example she says 'It's fucking freshhhhh this morning'. This emphasis shows people how cold it really is to Maisie, and then they can retweet if they agree, this allows people to share experiences, especially as the majority of your followers probably live near you.
Twitter allows people to share opinions and appreciate others. As a picture of a celebrity had a tweet attached saying 'No way' and then Maisie quote tweeted it saying 'omg so dead'. Twitter allows people to have a sarcastic register and the way it's made affects how people communicate as a lot of it is trolling as people can tweet what ever they want, and it has to be reported and looked at for 24 hours after it has been sent. This picture could upset the celebrity as it is mocking her previous relationship. Twitter allows people to talk in this crude way. Another interesting thing to pick up on is the use of acronyms such as 'omg' this is used to firstly shorten the use of characters in the tweet, as well as using it to have her own language, as when text speak first appeared it was used by younger people so they could have their own language. Twitter forces people to use acronyms such as this due to the lack of characters.
Emoji's are a new app on iPhone's that allow people to put little pictures with their texts and can be used on twitter a lot of Maisie's tweets contain these, it is probably because on twitter you can't always express how you meant something to come across, so by using these emojis it allows it to become easier for people to do just that as they have a varied choice of what they want to attach to the tweet, as there is pretty much every emotion you can possibly have on there. But some people may interpret these wrongly or if people don't have an iPhone they are unable to see the emoji and just see a blank box instead.
To conclude technology affects language in many ways as it can have a knock on affect to the way people communicate and receive information, which is important as over the next few years technology like this will be the main way people communicate all over the world.

How technology shapes language.
Guardian webpage. GAP ANALYSIS.
The guardian is a webpage aimed at young adults to inform them of the latest news in various topic areas. The webpage is shaped to fit this audience, as it reads left to right listing along the tabs the most important to the least important. This is how they prioritized it according to interest. This audience are able to consume this page in many ways which also applies to the young audience, as they understand new technology better so are able to access the page via mobile and tablets, by using it on these devices it adapts to them and slightly changes its format. It also fits the confrontational type of person, as there are a lot of controversial topics in which you can suggest like 'sorry but being a mother is not the most important job in the world'. This asks for a backlash, and conversation which will oppose to the topic read.
It fits its genre by using features that are most commonly used by webpages such as tabs, hyperlinks, images, banners and commercialism by using ads, by using these features it makes it a running website that is appropriate for the viewing of the audience. The guardian targets both male and female for example one of the tabs is specifically for women only. Certain aspects of this webpage make it clear to whom it is targeting 'Sport' and 'Life & Style' these are stereo typically for different genders.
The webpages purpose is to inform the audience of all the breaking news released recently, it does this by having a banner saying 'breaking news' which gets updated within the day to keep you in the loop. This even has the time that it was last updated so you can expect new news within the day.

Twitter blog article
Social Network Blog.
Twitter: Is it just made for trolls and the famous?
Twitter has been on the rise the last couple of years, and is almost as known as well as facebook.
-Abbi Howard.

Amanda Bynes twitter feed rampage.
Twitter gives the worst possible 'first impression' anyone could give especially for the celebrities. People such as Sally Axl and Amanda Bynes frequently send horrible and disgusting tweets about others. Twitter is used to give a 'minute by minute' update and look into the lives of others. There are '100 million' active twitter users to follow and see which of those take your fancy.
Task 2) I would like to use quotes by celebrities and trolls.
I need to find out if the information i have found is up to date.
I need to know who wrote it/said it.
I need to know where i found my facts.
I would like to include my own ideas to back up my point.
I will use quotes/ facts/statistics to back up or argue my point.

Review of R.I.P.D
R.I.P.D.
A knockoff to 'men in black' or just a compliment to the workings of Ed Solomon.
Plot
R.I.P.D. is a supernatural comedy based on the comic book rest in peace department. The film stars Ryan Renolds and Jeff Bridges act as cops who had died and been sent to a department especially for the dead to kill all "Deados." Within this each cop is killed by their former partner, Nick Walker (Ryan Renolds) found a piece of gold from a previous investigation and his fellow partner Bobby Hayes (Kevin Bacon) was out to find the missing piece which Nick had taken from the crime scene.
Review
A fun, light hearted comedy with tear jerking moments directed by Robert Shwentke, this film has it's exciting moments which make you sit on the edge of your seat, but also have you guessing and being right at every guess you made on what will happen next. This is usually a dissapointing moment in a film when you seem to be getting everything right but the acting by Jeff Bridges makes up for it. Clearly by starring Ryan Renolds the aim was to attact another audience which is middle aged women, but the real star to many was Jeff Bridges because he was a pure comedian in the supernatural comedy. Ryan pulled out a few puns here and there, but Jeff had everyone crying hysterically the whole way through. With his cross of characters throughout, Shwentke got it right with the comedic timing on this one. Jeff even had a song in the film 'the better man', Nobody would say this is the next big pop star but it did all make us laugh.
Kevin Bacon played the villian very well at times, sometimes more than others. He failed to really make himself apparant to us, he was the villian yet didn't seem that important as he only really seemed to take charge in the last 30 minutes. Which is slightly disappointing considering in other action films the villian competes with the main character for the starring role in the film. Saying this it should be noticed that he was very good once he revealed his true character as a "deado" because his character was dead before that, no pun intented.
This film seemed to contain a few simularities in story line to other films. There was a sense of 'Ghost' and 'Men in black'. Very much the same story line as men in black as both were killing zombie like creatures, and both were cops or in that area of work. Some may argue that R.I.P.D was a knockoff version of this film due to the same base of story line with a few changes here and there, whereas some may say it took inspiration from those great films and put it's own spin on it to contribute to the genre.
The film didn't seem to do well in the box office either being stated as 'disappointing'. The amount of money spent on this film was pulled back when hearing they didn't think they'd do well. Maybe they stayed too safe, isn't everyone tired of hearing the broken record of killing zombies?
Verdict
A great film if your into broken records. Sit and enjoy the comedic workings of Jeff Bridges, while you expect the expected.

Commentary
In my speech i used rhetorical devices to make the audience i chose to think about the subject at hand "Who should be held accountable for when a child fails his or hers GCSE's, the teacher, the parent or the student?" "First i will discuss the role of a teacher, is it just to teach, or is it to be held responsible for the achievements or failure's of all of their students?" I used this because the audience could be engaged through this technique as they hand to think about what i was asking them, and make their own judgement up which was useful as this is a very controversial issue and you need people to think about it to get to the point you need to be in where everyone can voice what they think but ultimately find a common ground and realise everyone is responsible to an extent.
I also used inclusive pronouns "We need to realise" this gave a feeling of togetherness as it was meant to unite the audience to make them realise that we really all should have the same goal, even with our differences we should hope for the students success. This makes the register slightly intimate as it joins everyone together as one by saying words like 'we' and 'our' gives this effect.
Leading to synthetic personalisation "Leading me to you parents and carers, now i know you work hard and have to come home to the kids." "but as i'm sure you know the classes range between 25-30 students" This gives the parents a sense of belonging in the meeting as they are pointed out specifically, also giving a sense of importance along with this. But really we know that the reader of this speech doesn't really know who you is he/she is speaking in general as it is not a personal conversation, so really the importance and belonging is meaningless.
I also used comedy "I know what your thinking.. the teacher should do that, and don't get me wrong i understand" "choice wisely how to spend your extra time. Will you sit and watch replays of The only way is Essex, watch a football match or will you spend that last hour before your tea on a Thursday night revising for that mock exam you have Monday." This gets the audience to feel comfortable in the atmosphere they are in, it leads to them being more open minded as they feel not so forced as the speech proceeds. Giving the reader of speech a bit of power without them realising it as the audience feel like they can relate to you leading you to discussing your ideas making them to possibly think it too.
In the speech i also mentioned some statistics "95% A-C grades and we believe if we all work hard to cooperate we can achieve this." This makes people engage as there is hard hitting evidence to back up the point made originally.
